Mind Blank-Senility Moment

You know when you have a lot to do you tend to forget things. I had gone out late night shopping with DS due to the fact that he wanted to buy his sister a birthday gift. We went shopping, stopped to have coffee and donuts. Then a light bulb moment....ohhhhh I was supposed to be meeting some of the girls from work for dinner for a birthday. I had already had tea with the family. OOPS. Ring the birthday girl and they are only just sitting down to eat. Race home drop the boy off and meet the girls for a drink.

I can't believe I forgot, a chance to go out, not have to cook dinner.....talk about early senility. Going to bed for a nanny nap.

I actually used the sewing machine!!!

I got creative today, better than cleaning the house. I managed to make a chocolate cake ready for family coming tomorrow night for DD 7 birthday. Actual birthday is on Monday.
My friends daughter is turning 9 tomorrow, all these late March babies!! So I made a raggy quilt, my first one. Nice and pink and girlie. I just hope she likes it.
I might actually get to the machine tomorrow too, but we won't hold the breath

Quote of the day for me

"I am not in this world to live up to other people's expectations, nor do I feel that the world must live up to mine."

Fritz Perls

Easter Get away

We went to Kalgoorlie for the weekend, just two nights. We only had to have 4 stops along the way just for petrol and wee breaks, because of course nobody needed to relieve themselves at the same time!!!

Friday afternoon we went to the Super Pit and VERY big hole in the ground, see if you can pick out the trucks in the pit!!!

Saturday we went to the miners hall of fame to do the tour of an underground mine. The mine was only 38m underground but the coolness you felt going down was incredible 15 degree difference at least and I think if it had been a 40 degree day that would have been higher. When they turned out the lights it was a new version of dark I would not like to be caught in.

The trip home on Sunday took over 9hrs. There was a truck roll over on the Great Eastern Highway that caused the road to be closed for at least 2.5 hrs. We detoured around the back way which in fact turned out to the same time frame if we had waited at the road block! But with that road you never know, last time it was shut due to a bush fire it remained closed for 10 days. You make the best decision at the time!

I actually managed to get some sewing done I finished block #3 in my Capricorn BOM.

Spring has sprung...In Autumn????

Well, last night was a dream evening. DD 1 was at a sleepover. DH and DS1 went into Subiaco to go see a show, I had the house to myself, no TV blaring, just my music, my sewing and my computer. Aaahhh bliss. A dear friend popped in around 8:30 to sit and sew with me, thanks Lynley. Then the boys came home...there endeth the peace...TV with sub going crash, boom, bang..and that was just the adverts!

As DH and I settled for the evening after Lynley left (12.30) he stated with a definite voice (the voice that you know the decision will not be altered), that he was going to rearrange the house today/tomorrow, (Sunday morning)....is it too late to make plans for the day.

Now the home is not a filthy one but we have hundreds of dust bunnies blowing through out plus the dust that has settled on surfaces (which are way to cluttered) because I have not dusted for a little while ;)We start at 10ish and we finished about an hour ago, so around 5.5 hrs. Oh boy did we clear a lot. The bins are full, we were ruthless, broken toys, torn books, ornaments that we just had no home for, even furniture that we have no place for any more.
The computer desk was in the other room, where the bookshelves now are. It was placed in the front room while we were shifting stuff. It is now in the study...but that is for another day..........

The quilt I made for the USA

I made this "Apple Wood" BOM, and took it with me in 2009 to the USA to give to my friend Lisa and Tom as a gift. Loved making it, mmmm maybe making it once more now my skills are better??

1st pic, original picture. 2nd and 3rd pic-Qiult insitu on Lisa bed in 2009.

I am posting these pictures although there are still a couple of things to do on this BOM. The lable has not been sewed on, so officially it is not finished, and I still have a couple of quilting lines to erase but in all the quilt is complete.

This is such a large quilt. In the picture of the whole quilt, the kids are standing on stools holding it above their heads and it still drags on the floor...oh well good way to collect some of those dust bunnies!!

As part of the mortal / angel swap I receive as well as give gifts. My angel gift arrived today. This lovely bright wall hanging/ table centre arrived in the mail today as well as some choc frogs. Made my day.

A friend went travelling and I did better than a post card. I got this beautiful cushion cover. A fantastic sample of hawiian quilting

Well I guess now I have a blog I need to be more organised...a fine thing I am sure!! Whether that happens or not we will find out.
What am I working on at the moment;
I am putting the finishing bits on my Applewood BOM 2006. I just have to finish sewing the binding on and put the lable on the back. Purists might cringe on this quilt, I have used polar fleece on the back, combining wadding and backing.
http://www.capricornquilts.com/ is another BOM I am doing, for this year, each block is hand sitchedand around 6"in size, I must finish February block so I then can start March's block.
I am on the committee for the Perth SCQ retreat. We are well on the way to being organised in this hopefully low key "Back to Basics"retreat, with the aim of the retreat just sitting down , sewing and gas bagging catching up with old friends and making new ones.
I am part of the angel and mortal swap for this retreat, and am enjoying keeping my mortal in the dark, so for now my angelic identity will remain anon, as will my mortals.
Busy doing my siggie squares for the retreat. Just have to finish stamping and colouring them.
A wall hanging I was working on at the Bendigo Retreat 2007. Each piece in blanket stitched in place. The picture came from a Disney colouring book and it is the rose in "Beauty and the Beast.
